I’m thrilled to share that I’ve received the Highly Commended Poster Award during the Tony Beasley Awards at the British Academy of Management (BAM) Doctoral Symposium 2024! This recognition feels like an important milestone in my PhD journey, and I’m excited to reflect on what this means for my research.
In my previous blog posts, I mentioned how my first-ever poster was accepted to the BAM conference. Despite having given presentations before in my role at Walton Institute (SETU), I was admittedly nervous about presenting my research in such a prestigious academic setting. The idea of explaining my work to both peers and senior academics was daunting but rewarding.
I owe a great deal of thanks to my supervisory team—Prof. Jonathan Sapsed, Dr. James Cunningham both from Newcastle University and Professor Bill O'Gorman from South-East Technological University (SETU) — who have been guiding me throughout the first year of my PhD. It was their encouragement that led me to submit my poster to BAM after I had developed my conceptual framework. My research explores the strategic choices of top managers, their strategies, and the impact on local development, all through the lens of the European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) network.
Receiving this recognition from BAM feels like a validation not only of my work but also of the support and guidance I’ve received from my supervisors. It’s a shared achievement that highlights the potential impact of the research we are undertaking.
Looking ahead, I’m eager to continue pushing my research forward and to begin the next stages of data collection and analysis. I’m also already looking forward to BAM 2025, where I hope to share even more progress.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far, and here’s to another exciting year of research ahead!

Stay tuned for more updates as my PhD journey unfolds!
